Nationwide CBT Services

What is CBT?

CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is a talking therapy. It has been proved to help treat a wide range of emotional and physical health conditions in adults, young people and children. CBT looks at how we think about a situation and how this affects the way we act. In turn our actions can affect how we think and feel.

Our cognitive processes are our thoughts which include our ideas, mental images, beliefs and attitudes. Cognitive therapy is based on the principle that certain ways of thinking can trigger, or fuel, certain health problems. For example, anxiety, depression, phobias, etc, but there are others, including physical problems. The therapist helps you to understand your current thought patterns.  CBT aims to change any behaviours that are harmful or not helpful. Various techniques are used. For example, a common unhelpful behaviour is to avoid situations that can make you anxious. In some people with phobias the avoidance can become extreme and affect day-to-day life. In this situation a type of behavioural therapy called exposure therapy may be used. This entails the patient being gradually exposed to feared situations. The therapist teaches the patient how to control anxiety and cope when facing up to the feared situations. For example, by using deep breathing and other techniques.

What can CBT help with?

There is good evidence that CBT is helpful in treating many conditions, including:

  • anxiety disorders, including panic attacks and post-traumatic stress disorder
  • depression
  • obsessive compulsive disorder
  • schizophrenia and psychosis
  • bipolar disorder
  • chronic fatigue
  • behavioural difficulties in children
  • anxiety disorders in children
  • chronic pain
  • physical symptoms without a medical diagnosis
  • sleep difficulties
  • anger management

How Curian Medical delivers CBT

Curian Medical has an extensive network of Therapists across the country who deliver CBT on a regular basis.  All Therapists are required to be registered with a recognised professional body, have appropriate insurance in place and should have at least 2 years’ experience.  We offer CBT as individual sessions with a Therapist and the first stage is to co-ordinate an initial assessment. After this first appointment an initial assessment report is produced indicating the recommended number of further treatment sessions.

The initial assessment will usually include time for the therapist and patient to develop a shared understanding of the problem. This is usually to identify how the patients’ thoughts, ideas, feelings, attitudes and behaviours affecting their day-to-day life.  Typically, a session of therapy is done once a week. Most courses of CBT last for several weeks. It is common to have 10-15 sessions but a course of CBT can be longer or shorter, depending on the nature and severity of the condition. At the end of sessions a discharge report is provided to the referrer indicating the progress made during sessions.

Due to the patient attending weekly appointments we would not expect patients to travel too far. We aim to secure timely appointments with a Therapist within 5 miles of the patient.

We offer competitive fixed fees for our nationwide CBT services – contact us to learn how we can support you in this area of rehabilitation.

Curian Medical recognise the value and importance of early intervention for rehabilitation.  As such, upon receipt of your instruction, Curian Medical will match appropriately your patient to one of the physiotherapists on our panel.  We appreciate location is key and therefore select a conveniently located venue which usually results in the patient having to travel less than 5 miles for appointments.

All physiotherapists are managed via our Curative Team in Birmingham and are fully qualified and members of the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapists) and the Healthcare Professionals Council (HCPC). Each physiotherapist on our panel must have at least 3 years post graduate experience.  If you are interested in joining our panel then do please feel free to contact us via [email protected]

Our Curative Team keep clients updated on each case referred via our bespoke patient management database.

In order to ensure we deliver a clinically effective and quality service we engage an independent physiotherapist to conduct quarterly audits.  The results of our first audit in Q1 of 2015 are in and I am delighted that all reports audited fell well within acceptable levels.

Our full range of injury rehabilitation services are designed to return claimants back to, or as near to, their pre-injured condition, as soon as clinically possible.

We will co-ordinate an initial assessment for your patient at the earliest opportunity and provide you with a report indicating the number of physiotherapy sessions required. The Initial Assessment report is included in our fees. We have our own reporting templates available, however we are happy to work with our clients if they have specific requirements surrounding these templates.

Our Curative Team will keep you informed of your patients’ progress via our bespoke patient management database.

With no additional charge we will issue you with a copy of the patients discharge report.

Curian Medical has implemented a competitive pricing structure for this nationwide service and invoice at the end of treatment sessions.

Further Treatments

Our physiotherapy audit results are in!

We are most delighted here at Curian Medical with the audit results for our nationwide physiotherapy services for Q1 of 2015.  Of those initial assessment and discharge reports audited 100% were found to be within most acceptable levels of quality.

Each quarter, Curian Medical engage with an independent physiotherapist to undertake an audit of a percentage of our physiotherapy initial assessments and discharge reports.  During this audit a number of elements are scored on a grading system.  Clinically we audit whether clear goals are identified during assessment and whether these are specific, measurable and timed.  Additionally we score treatment plans and identify whether national guidelines have been followed when preparing these.  Also included within the audits is a section regarding the clarity, professionalism and formatting of the reports we deliver to our clients.

In order to ensure that we continue to deliver a nationwide physiotherapy service to the highest standard these audits will continue to take place quarterly and I very much look forward to sharing the results of these with you.

If you would like to learn more about our nationwide physiotherapy service or indeed any other aspect of our rehabilitation services then please do feel free to contact Amanda O’Neill on 0121 236 8377 or [email protected]

Pain Management Consultations

Curian Medical offer access to Pain Management Consultations nationwide as part of our portfolio of services.  We have an extensive network of experts who we work with regularly to deliver this service.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with pain.  Pain can either be managed using pharmacological or interventional procedures. There are many interventional procedures available for pain, those typically used for chronic pain – include epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections and trigger point injections.

Chronic pain is pain that lasts for over three months. In the case of an injury or surgery, chronic pain is pain that continues after the normal healing process is completed.

Each patient’s treatment is individualised as pain is a subjective sensation and what works for one person may not necessarily work for the next even though the diagnosis is the same.

For each individual referred to Curian Medical for Pain Management, our Curative Team co-ordinate a consultation with an appropriate expert within close proximity to the patients’ residence.  Upon completion of this consultation, a report is provided to our client, this may contain recommendations for further intervention procedures such as injections.

With our panel of experts and venues, Curian Medical are able to provide competitive quotations for these further interventions that are recommended and co-ordinate these procedures in a timely and cost effective manner.

If you would like to learn more about our Pain Management Consultations and further intervention procedures then please do feel free to contact Amanda O’Neill on 0121 236 8377 or [email protected]
